Process for Bringing a Prepared Message to Three Rivers Worship

In February 2021 the hosts of Three Rivers discerned the need to make an open invitation to all to bring the prepared message for our Thursday morning online worship.

  1. A request comes to host(s) from someone interested in bringing a prepared message. (No need to do this for a spontaneous message in worship.)

  2. Name is brought forth in host meeting for discernment.

  3. If folks are clear to proceed, a host schedules a time to meet with the person.

  4. The meeting with the person has two major purposes:

    • To review with them The Three Rivers Circles document and the aspects of our community that feel the most important to us. They don’t need to assent or affirm everything necessarily, but they do need to understand those are our norms and culture and we want to encourage messages that come to the Body to be resonant with that vision.

    • To worship and discern with that person what the message is that seems to be rising, and what support and/or accountability would be useful in the process of developing the message en route to the Body.

  5. Host brings a sense of meeting and recommendation back to host meeting.

  6. Hosts discern if an invitation is to be extended.

  7. If the invitation is extended, hosts also discern what support/accountability/eldering should be provided and by whom. This at least includes a post-message follow-up.

  8. Message is scheduled.

  9. Support/accountability/eldering is provided as discerned.

  10. Message is brought.

  11. Post-message follow-up meeting with the minister is done.

  12. Report is made in host meeting.
